Marketing Journey of Danial Hodder
Let me tell you about my Affiliate Marketing Journey, from knowing nothing about making money online to daily sales. For the past few years I have been plugging along with my online business. I first started out in marketing by working for a company while I was living in Bangkok, Thailand. Coming from an engineering background I had never had anything to do with marketing, so this was a big learning curve for me.
I had a lot of success and really enjoyed it. I decided then and there that I wanted to continue in this field. From there I thought I had the skills I needed to kill it in the online marketing business. How wrong I was…
In the early days
I was introduced to a very large affiliate marketing company promising millions. Everything was done for you, all you have to do is drive traffic, blah blah blah…
My wife and I went to a free seminar to find out more about it and then signed up for the $500 home business summit over 3 days where we were sold the next level for another $4,500 to become a Gold Affiliate.
If we had more money, we would have likely positioned ourselves even higher, but that $5,000 was already going over our limit. Anyway we signed up and a couple of weeks later our fancy box full of information turned up and we were away.
My wife and I set our marketing budget for Facebook ads and I went to work on the creative and started posting my ads. I had a friend that did copywriting so I got down a rough draft and asked him to make it sound good.
I continued watching very helpful youtube videos and I thought I was the king of marketing. However, my Facebook ads were not doing very well. In 9 months I had had 2 people sign up for the free events I was promoting and I had not made 1 single sale. Over that time I had also spent another $3,000 on advertising.
In April of 2018 that company was shutdown by the FTA in the USA for being a scam and my wife and I are now $8,000 out of pocket.
But every story must have a happy ending right? RIGHT!
While in Bangkok I made one very close friend, Simon. After the closure of the above business he informed me that he had been working on an Affiliate Marketing business platform with his business partner in the USA, Mike. It was a dream of theirs that they had been working on for a long time and they were going to be launching ‘Mentor Makers‘ in July 2018.
This was absolutely perfect for me! I couldn’t wait. Towards the end of June Simon told me I could join up and was ready to go all in. I registered for my ‘Free Affiliate’ account and then instantly signed up to the Monthly Action Taker account for $27 per month and secure 30% commission. Straight away I went to the top position of Fast Track Affiliate to secure 50% commissions on all of my sales for a one time payment of $97.
So for $124 I was positioned at the highest level! Sure beats $5,000 to be at the lowest level…
I watched all of the training videos and new how the platform worked in a few hours and then started on my Facebook advertising content right away!
Within 2 weeks I had made my very first sale! It was only $3.50, but it was the most amazing feeling! I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was. I grabbed my wife and shook her with excitement shouting “we made our first sale!!!”.
By the end of July my commissions were covering my monthly payments and everything on top I could spend on my advertising instead of paying out of my pocket.
Goals for 2019
At the end of 2018 my commissions were covering my average marketing spend, and in 2019 I intend to double down on my marketing and by the end of 2019 I want to be making at least $5,000 per month in profit. That is my goal, and I will achieve it.
I am a realist, and I don’t expect to make millions right away. I still work full time and do my marketing in my spare time. When I reach my goal I’m sure I will consider leaving my day job, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it. I kind of enjoy getting paid to do my passion of fixing machines bigger than my own house.
